The U.S. National Academy of Sciences and Engineering sponsored a convocation entitled "Reinventing Schools: The Technology is Now" in May, 1993. Hundreds participated in the convocation by satellite to discuss the issues of technolog
y in the K-12 educational environment. The purpose of the convocation was to present a vision of what could be in the future of education.
This beautifully designed site continues in that goal. You will find conference transcripts and materials delivered by the speakers and other participants at the convocation. In addition, there are multimedia articles and programs on how to reach and t each children and educators on how to use technology effectively. You can access a program that lists the participating exhibitors and includes audio and video files from the convocation. In addition, this site spotlights schools and organizations that ar e already using technology successfully. A link-sensitive flowchart eases navigation. Using the cutting edge of technology the Jason Project allows students to control and gather data from a deep-sea submersible that explores the seafloor through satellite downlinks to schools. The Jason Foundation for education is ded
icated to delivering original interactive curricula and programs developed for grades 4 through 8.
A Teachers Guide prepares students and teachers for the Jason Project. The curricular materials incorporate national goals and standards into classroom lesson plans. Educators will like the Jason Teacher Discussion Group and online activities and stude nt discussion group. In addition, a searchable database contains all the Jason project information. In the Students Corner section, students can participate in student discussion groups, take a tour of the NR-1 submarine, meet the Jason VII scientists, an d view some of the art work that students have sent in. Jason VII explores the conditions for life in the coastal marine habitat of southern Florida. In addition, teachers and students can share their thoughts, experiences and findings about the Jason VII curriculum-based activities.

The Exploratorium Web page contains a collection of 650 interactive electronic exhibits and resources for teachers, students, and science enthusiasts. It is an educational museum center that delivers information on the topics of scien
ce, nature, art, and technology.
You will find three-dimensional exhibits that feature light, color, sound music, motion, animal behavior, electricity, heat and temperature, language, patterns, hearing, touch, vision, waves and resonance, and weather. The online exhibits in the Digita l Library of Exhibits come equipped with scientific images and sounds. In the Learning Studio, you can view electronic versions of the Exploratorium exhibits, retrieve an educatorÕs guide to student-built experiments, and access instructions on how to build classroom and home versions of Exploratorium exhibits.

4. Students for the Exploration and Development of Space |
The Students for the Exploration and Development of Space project works with students to design, build, and fly a microsat-class satellite. This site outlines the project and includes a galaxy of images and information. You can take a solar-system tour , access the Messier Deep-Sky catalog, and view images from the space images archive.
