Overwhelming. That is perhaps the most apt term to describe the World Wide Web. It is big. No one really knows how many sites are on the Web, but estimates run as high as 42 million. The Web is insanely dynamic, too. Every day sees new sites arrive and old ones disappear.
But size and change aren't the biggest barriers to getting the most from the Web. Finding the best sites in a given category can be a tedious chore. A typical query at an index site such as Lycos could turn up hundreds of listings. Checking them all would eat up hours of connect time.
I felt what was needed is a list of the best sites for major categories.
The CyberBubba's Best of the Web is such a list.
It ranks the 25 best sites in each of 20 categories. Those categories are:
